Home School Community Liaison

Home School Community Liaison

Ms. Eva Winters has recently been appointed as the Home, School, Community Liaison Coordinator (HSCL) in Terence MacSwiney Community College (TMS). We very much welcome parents into the school to celebrate the achievements of our students and hope that parents can play an active role in the school. Our HSCL coordinator provides an essential link between parents, the school and the community which includes all round support for families.

Secondary school can be a big adjustment for parents as well as students, and every year first year parents are invited into the Parents’ Room to meet staff and familiarise themselves with teachers and the school and the supports available within TMS and in a wider context. Our Parents’ Room is spacious and well equipped enabling parents to pursue their own interests and education. A wide range of courses and activities are run in the Parents’ Room and it is also a relaxed meeting area for parents.

Every year the school celebrates the family reading project One Book One Community. This project links pre-schools, primary schools and Terence MacSwiney students from the Knocknaheeeny, Hollyhill and Strawberry Hill community. Parents and families enjoy the now annual visit of one of Ireland’s most popular and entertaining storytellers, Neil DeBurca in the school library which is one of the highlights in the community events calendar.

This year’s One Book One Community reading choices were Owl Babies And There’s A Boy In The Girls’ Bathroom.
